Gender Predictions

I am totally obsessing about the babies genders. I would pay a lot of money to know who is in there right this minute!! After some thought, we decided to skip the gender reveal pics and just wait until the 16 week ultrasound at the specialist. I am too scared they will be wrong! I want to see proof. Front and back, 100% certainty! Only negative is that the appointment is during the day, so Tom wont be there. Itll be a long day, waiting until 4pm, to tell him the big news!

I found a list of old wives tales so I can compare.

It's a boy if: You didn't experience morning sickness in early pregnancy
Your baby's heart rate is less than 140 beats per minute
You are carrying the extra weight out front
Your belly looks like a basketball
Your areolas have darkened considerably
You are carrying low
You are craving salty or sour foods
You are craving protein -- meats and cheese
Your feet are colder than they were before pregnancy
The hair on your legs has grown faster during pregnancy
Your hands are very dry
Your pillow faces north when you sleep

Dad-to-be is gaining weight, right along with you
Pregnancy has you looking better than ever
Your urine is bright yellow in color
Your nose is spreading
You hang your wedding ring over your belly and it moves in circles
You are having headaches
You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived and the sum is an even number

It's a girl if: You had morning sickness early in pregnancy
Your baby's heart rate is at least 140 beats per minute

You are carrying the weight in your hips and rear
Your left breast is larger than your right breast
Your hair develops red highlights
You are carrying high
Your belly looks like a watermelon
You are craving sweets
You are craving fruit
You crave orange juice
You don't look quite as good as normal during pregnancy You are moodier than usual during pregnancy
Your face breaks out more than usual
You refuse to eat the heel of a loaf of bread
Your breasts have really blossomed
Your pillow faces south when you sleep
Your urine is a dull yellow color
You hang your wedding ring over your belly and it moves from side to side You add your age at the time of conception and the number for the month you conceived and the sum is an odd number

To wrap things up-this list is nuts! What I can gather is..I have craved a ton of random foods, Im always cold, I feel like a crabby pregnant lady who is easily annoyed. I dont feel pretty and my butt has gotten a little extra cushion on it. One item I found so odd is my boobs! With Trevor and Gavin, my boobs were instantly sore and grew a ton overnight. This time, they never felt tender and didnt grow at all. That is, until last week. They are now my typical pregnant boobs I adore so much.

Chinese gender says girl. It was correct with Trevor and Gavin.

Cupcake, Wednesday!

I am late with my cupcake post, tisk tisk!! I have been so very busy lately. I spent the weekend in Milwaukee celebrating my best friends bachelorette party. We stayed up until 4am on Friday night...and I paid for it, big time. I seriously felt like crap until Monday morning. Plus, I really missed Tom. I only saw him for half the day on Sunday and that is just not enough! This living separate is really starting to take a toll on me.

This week, we are on spring break. The two kids I watch during the week are teachers children. Therefore, we get a week off, too! We stayed at the cottage Sunday-Monday and went to see the Easter bunny last night. Yesterday, we went to a birthday party, then to the Navy Pier children s museum and then to visit Daddy at his condo! We were gone from 11am-8pm. Again, I am exhausted.

Today, we are at home. Packing, paying bills, resting. We are supposed to FINALLY get some warm weather here starting we are looking forward to being outside!

NT Scan

I had my NT scan today and Im happy to report it went well! I was usual. I couldn't fall asleep last night because I was anxious for the appointment. The morning went by quickly and before I knew it, I was driving to the hospital. I filled out my paperwork, got my finger pricked and waited for the scan.

My heart always stops as that wand reaches my belly and I wait to see two heartbeats. The babies are big now, so I was greeted with two bouncing babies, stacked on top of each other. That worked for me.

The tech was very sweet and talked me through it. Both babies measured 12w4d, which is what I am today! She showed me the brain, stomach, heart, arms, legs, etc. They looked just perfect. She measured the fluid on the back of the neck for the NT scan and will get those results in a week. Baby B is the little troublemaker and was harder to get good measurements  After a while, she had me stand up and jump around a bit to get them to move a different way.

I love ultrasounds and this one has always been my favorite. This time around, its even more amazing to see two little miracles in there. I cant help but smile as shes scanning baby B and I see baby A's legs kicking about. Here are their profile pics. Aren't they the sweetest!?

The perinatologist came in and chatted with me for part of the scan. He went over the possible risks of twins and said its great that Ive already carried two pregnancies to term. I will return to the maternal/fetal medicine office for cervical checks at 16, 18, 20 and 22 weeks. At 20 weeks they will do a "marathon" ultrasound and check every nook and cranny of the babies. After 22 weeks, I will have my cervix checked at my OB office. I will return to the specialist more often toward the end..for growth ultrasounds and eventually non-stress tests. Its all a little overwhelming, but I feel good about carrying them to term.

I head to my regular OB appointment in an hour!!

We did some major St. Patricks Day celebrating this weekend. Saturday, we went to the local parade, which my niece and nephew danced in. It was an unbearable 30 degrees. Afterward, they performed at the church down the block. We love watching them dance. I look forward to signing Trevor up when he turns 4!

Here we are in our gear, after we warmed up at home. My shirt says Twins, twice the luck!

Sunday, we went to my cousins babies baptism. It was at the church we were married at and our boys were baptized at. I love going back there. Afterward, we went back to their home and had a traditional Irish meal and visited with everyone. I love my big Irish family. Photo above was from yesterday. :)

I will update on Wednesday after the NT scan!

Gavin is ONE!

finally finished this..10 days late..

Gavin Thomas-Happy 1st Birthday! I swear it was just yesterday you were set in my arms, eyes wide open and whimpering. The year has flown by..far, too quickly. We have enjoyed every minute of watching you grow. You are the most loving baby I have ever met. You love to be held, snuggled, are attached to your pacifier and blankie. Daddy and I simply adore watching you interact with your brother. We love you every minute of every day and can not wait to see who you become. Love-Mama

So I will remember:

~You weigh about 17 lbs. Ill get your real measurements at your 1 year appointment.

~We are surprised youre still so thin because you are a bottomless pit! You eat 3 full meals and many snacks a day. You cry for food when you see us eating. You arent very picky..youve only turned away a few foods.

~You started walking at 9.5 months. You got so much attention everywhere we went. People couldnt believe how quick and tiny you were. And still are! Now, you run! And climb! You hike your left leg up and can get where you want.

~You usually take a morning nap, about 2 hours after you wake up. An afternoon nap when Trevor sleeps. You transitioned to dropping your 3rd nap this past month. If your morning nap is too long, youll fight that second one.

~Nighttime sleep is hit or miss. Youll have a good few weeks of sleeping through the night..and then itll be days and days of waking. You usually sleep 7:30/8 until 6/6:30. You are an early riser, even if we keep you up later at night.

~You say Mama, Dada, hi, yeah, bye, all done, that and something for blankie..sounds like deedah!

~You understand everything! I can ask if you want to eat, for you to go get your pacifier, for you to give kisses, etc.

~You sign more, all done, eat, milk, hi and bye.

~Your first 2 teeth came in at 9ish months and you broke your top 4 a few weeks ago..all at once!

~You had your first ER visit 2 weeks ago. You fell and broke your frenulum in your mouth. It was a bloody mess and we were thankful you didnt need stitches.

~You are a healthy little guy. Youve never had major illness. You had a short bought of the flu this winter..a fever here and there..but, no major complaints.

~You wear size 6-12 month and 9 month clothes. Your shoes are size 3.5.

~You recently went up to size 3 diaper.

~You LOVE music! You love to dance and cant help it if music comes on. You do this cute shoulder sway to a few songs, jingle bells is your favorite, still. Otherwise, youll do a happy feet dance or bounce up and down. You love to play with instruments.

~You also love when Mama sits and sings with you and does finger plays. Twinkle, twinkle, Row row row your boat, Itsy bitsy spider, etc.

~That blankie is the love of your life. You want us to grab it out of the crib when we take you out. It comforts you instantly. You see it, run to it and smother your face into it.

~You drink about 4 bottles of milk during the day. I warm it up a bit for you. You drink water and love it. Weve never given you juice. Blame it on your big brother who wont drink water!

~Your favorite foods are kiwi, strawberries, jelly sandwich, mac and cheese, corn, and bananas.

~You are SO friendly. You wave at strangers and say hi and want to socialize with everyone.

~You always sleep on your belly. Sometimes your butt is in the air.

~Trevor is the funniest person alive, in your eyes.

~You are a good mix of Mamas boy and Daddys buddy. You love to be held and cuddled.

~You love the bath and splash, splash, splash!

~You are obsessed with brushing your teeth! You will point to the medicine cabinet and say Ahh, ahh until we brush them.

~You love to climb stairs! If we play in the basement, I have to block them..otherwise, you are running over there every 2 seconds.

~Its so much fun to take you places now that youre a big boy and play. I cant wait to get you outside this Spring!

WE LOVE YOU, GTR! You were worth every minute we waited, every tear we cried, every time our hearts broke a little would do it again & again & again. We look forward to the next year..hearing you talk, having a fun summer and watching you become a big brother. Even then, you will always be MY baby.

Cupcake Monday-11 Weeks

How far along? 11 weeks 2 days

Total weight gain/loss: Even! I'm really surprised at this!

Maternity clothes? Bottoms, most days

Sleep: Not too bad

Best moment this week: Getting some cute clothes at the resale

Movement: Waiting for it!

Food cravings: Chocolate milk, which is something I craved a ton with Trevor

Gender: I'm just not sure! However, I realized on Saturday just how much I want a daughter. It may be because we have a perfect girls name that I am so excited about.

Labor Signs: No way

Belly Button in or out? Innie

What I miss: Energy

What I am looking forward to: Feeling normal again, finding out sexes!

Milestones: Babies look like real babies now. Cant wait to see on the NT scan.

I got my doppler in the mail this week, thanks Jessica!, and used it right away. I wasn't sure Id be able to know if they were two separate heartbeats but one way on my very left side and one on the very right side. They are tough to find, but its still very early to use a doppler.

Saturday morning, I went to two resales with my Mom and sister. The twin sale was a total bust. We went across the way and another resale was awesome. We ended up getting a bunch of girl stuff..sleepers mostly. If I end up without my girl, I will pass it on to my girlfriend who just found out shes having a girl. It was so much fun sorting through all the pink and bright colors.

We also made a decision about our gender reveal, as long as our photographer is available. I think were going to do the pinterest idea of putting balloons in a box and finding out that way. Ill have the tech call/text our photographer and she can get the balloons and we will drive straight to her after the ultrasound. We wont want to wait any longer than that! I am a bit apprehensive about going at 15 weeks, but I really want to know before I head down to see Evan. The place we plan to go to has done over 2,000 ultrasounds and has only been wrong once.

This weekend was a bit rough. Gavin was under the weather most of last week, but seemed better on Friday, so I skipped taking him to the doc. Saturday, he was just miserable and we decided to go to urgent care. Sure enough, he has a double ear infection. His first ever. I felt SO bad for him. He was beyond whiney and wanted to be held constantly. He barely has an appetite, which is not like him. He didn't seem any better yesterday. I'm hoping the meds will have kicked in by today. I had to cancel his well visit from last week because he had a fever. I'm anxious about taking him and seeing he hasn't gained much weight. The doc mentioned doing some testing when he turned 1 to see if theres a reason why he is so tiny. I'm going to call today and make it for later this week.

It rained all weekend and we are tired of being stuck inside!! Its supposed to warm up a bit this week and we cant wait to go to the zoo!!

Birthday Party

Gavin's birthday was on Saturday. March 2nd. That happens to be Dr. Seuss' birthday. The day I had Gavin, I knew what his birthday theme would be. Before he even had a full name..

The party was amazing. It came together beautifully and everyone had a great time. My big regret is not taking enough pictures! I usually hand my camera off to Gavins Godmomma, but her daughter was sick at home, so she only stayed a few minutes. I didn't get a chance to ask anyone else to take over!

Another thing Id change would be having the party on his real birthday. I had doubts about having it that day back when I booked it. It just made sense, since it fell on a Saturday. I would have rather spent the whole day snuggling and loving on my baby. Instead, I spent the morning picking up the party items and had to share him with the guests. :)

The party was from 2-5, so I kept food/drinks simple. I had water, punch and coffee.
Food was mainly sweets!! Green eggs and ham pretzels, grapes(more green eggs, thats whats missing in the pic below), cat in the hat skewers..which were strawberries and marshmallows, cake pops, cotton candy, chocolate molds of #1 and the Lorax mustache, swedish fish and finally, cake!

Party favors were bags I bought at the $1 section from Target..when Gavin was about 2 months old. They were so perfect. Each bag had a Dr. Seuss coloring page and Dr. Seuss stickers. There was a box of crayons, bubbles and a ring pop. For the babies under 2, I got the Cat in the Hat stuffed animals from Kohls. I ordered gift tags from etsy. It said, "Today was good, today was fun. Thank you, thank you, everyone. -Gavin" I didnt get a close up of it.

I made the canvases using a book, canvases, mod podge and some red paint. I framed a few photos from his bday shoot and displayed them on the tables. I made a little note for everyone to sign his Birthday book.

Gavin was a ham at the party. He was in love with all of the balloons. He was super easy going and let everyone hold him and was happy the entire time. It was perfect!

I had a face painter come and originally, she was going to do all Dr. Seuss themed paint. She is super talented and I ended up telling her to do whatever the kids wanted.

I figured kids would be entertained enough between waiting to be painted and getting some cotton candy. They found ways to entertain themselves, too.

Gavins cake was made to look like a book. It was so rich and we had tons left over!

Above is the pic I am using for his thank you card. I usually do general ones with a photo. I kept with the theme and it says, "Dont cry because its over, smile because it happened." Another Dr. Seuss quote. :)

We waited until we got home to open gifts. Well, Gavin took interest in about 2 and then Trevor took over.

The whole day was a whirlwind. I am glad I get a break from parties for a while!
