Holiday Happenings

There are so many fun things to do around the holidays. I have a "bucket list" of what I wanted to do with Trevor before Christmas. So far, we are doing well! Last Friday, we went to the Museum of Science and Industry downtown. They have a Dr. Seuss holiday exhibit there now and the trees were beautiful!

Saturday afternoon, we had tickets to go on the Polar Express. Short story? It was a disaster. Long story? Why, let me tell you..

We invited our friends to come along, Logan being 9 days younger than Trevor and also loving trains. We were so amped..got matching jammies and had big plans for the day. It started with the story being read at the park district. Then, we went outside and waited for the train to come. Luckily, it wasn't a freezing cold day. Our train was delayed almost 30 minutes. Keeping 2, two year olds occupied while standing next to train tracks is not fun!

When we finally got on the train, we had to sit on the top. Its not exactly safe for young children, who try to hang over the edge and look at people below. Jen and I got a workout trying to keep the boys seated. I wasn't worried about it and said we would be sure to get on the train earlier on the way back. Yeah, right.

We arrive at the station and were under the impression that it would be decorated and we would have about 30 minutes to visit with Santa and have a snack. Because of the delay, they told us to hurry up because our train was departing in 10 minutes. They handed us a jug of milk and a bag with 2 cookies and we got in line for Santa. We were hoping to do individual pics with the boys, one together and one of each family. We were waiting in line, got a pic of each boy and Santa told Jason that he was in a rush, only one picture. COME ON!

Also while standing in line, Tom realized he lost his wallet. He felt his jacket pocket and darted out of the station. We had watched the train that dropped us off leave, so we were in a panic. Him losing his wallet with his ID and badge is a 30 day suspension and possible termination. We are being shoved out of the station and Tom is off trying to talk to a conductor. They told him the train went into the yard down the block to check there. We had to abandon Tom at the station, that was a 45 minute drive from home. He was sure the wallet fell out on the other train. Guess where we sat on the way back? On the top. I was so frustrated at this point. I went down to talk to one of the conductors and Tom finally got let into the yard. They searched and couldn't find his wallet. We were all hoping it was left in the car at the park district.

We finally got back and I ran to the car. There it was, inside a shopping bag. I was so relieved. I called Tom and Jason went to go pick him up. All of that stress and worry was for nothing. If that doesn't explain how out of it Tom has been lately, I don't know what does.

I was totally disappointed in the whole Polar Express experience. It wasn't cheap either. Then again, the boys had fun and were such a joy, and that is was really matters. Maybe we will skip it next year..

This weekend, we are going to Winter Wonderfest at Navy Pier-our FAVE holiday activity! We are also going to the Brookfield Zoo lights with my whole family. I love this time of year and its even better enjoying it with Trevor. Add in being pregnant and I am one happy Mama.
