Tiny Whale

Most women would love to hear how great they look while pregnant.

Not this one.

I have been complimented twice in the past three days. They said how tiny and cute I am.

My reaction? WHY am I tiny? Is the baby not growing? We haven't seen baby in 6 weeks, maybe something is wrong?

I would so much rather look like a whale because my baby is growing big and healthy.

Ugh, these scars of infertility run deep. :/

It's normal to be tiny for the first pregnancy. My sister had twins and she was smaller at 20 weeks than you are now. Don't worry. I'm sure you'll be 'a whale' soon enough. :-) For me the hugeness happened after the 20 wk. mark.

No worries hun, every one carries different and I think you look VERY pregnant and cute. Although I know what you mean, I remember all to well googling belly shots for the week pregnant I was and comparing.

I think it has to do with your frame. You look like you are a tiny girl to start with and I think you will really pop in the next few weeks. I personally never thought your belly was small...I think its lovely the way it is! :)

It is very normal to be small the first time around. When I was pregnant with my twins I was always told "you do not look like you are pregnant with twins" "you are so tiny to have twins" so it is almost the same thing as you and with infertility, you are right...makes you worry more. However, you are healthy, your baby is healthy, and that is all that matters!

I think your photos make you look adorable. And you don't pop out as soon with your first one. Have faith that everything is just fine with your little peanut!

Oh my gosh, I can so relate to this post!!! I have had so many people tell me how I don't even look pregnant. I also had one woman take a look at my belly and say, "Wow, you must be like 8 weeks?" Yeah, I was out of the first trimester when she said that. I know some people might figure that we'd take that as a compliment but I'm like you- it just makes me worry. And I know that's associated with how hard we (and you) worked for this pregnancy. Infertility never leaves you.

a girl i know here said the same thing the other day. she is 19 weeks and you can't even tell. her family told her that and she said "i paid 20K for this baby, you better tell me i look huge". i thought it was funny but true.

Hi, I'm an occasional lurker. Just thought I'd add my 2 cents here to (hopefully) make you feel better. I personally thought your belly looked big for a first time pregnancy at the number of weeks you are! With my 1st, I had just started to really show to the point that others knew I was pregnant and wear maternity clothes for real when I went for my 21 week US. You look great!! That belly will definitely get bigger! The maternity clothes just get more fun the bigger you get too : ). Enjoy!

I felt the same way when I was pregnant with my first daughter. I figured because I was thin to start with that I'd look absolutely huge when pregnant, and I was really looking forward to it. Then when I finally got pregnant it took me forever to start really showing, and EVERYONE just had to tell me how tiny I was and how I didn't look as far along as I was. People treated it as if they were complimenting me, but I really hated it and felt like screaming every time it happened. When I was around 26 weeks, I went into the hospital with some pain, and the guy at the front desk almost sent me to the ER instead of Labor & Delivery b/c he said they only send women to L&D if they're at least 21 weeks.

In the end, look at it this way...you look better than just about all the other pregnant women out there, you look very healthy, and you're less likely to get nasty stretch marks this way. Plus, big babies doesn't exactly equal healthy babies! If you keep this up, your odds of having gestational diabetes will be slim to none! Good luck!

Be careful what you wish for! That's what my mom has been telling me and look, I may have two in there!! LOL You will pop one day and then we will be reading about how "big" you feel. LOL Even though I don't think your little body can be that big. :)

Before you know it you will wake up and there will be this huge belly! Hang in there, I think you are growing just fine when you post pictures.... I think they just meant you are a cute pg person (like I personally have a huge butt, so at least you don't have that)!

You look great! Trust me, there will come a time when you WISH people were telling you how tiny you looked!

As everyone has already assured you, you look perfect! Actually, you look much bigger than I did at 18 weeks! Lucky girl!

People think they are giving a compliment when saying how "tiny" you look. I HATED it when people said that to me when I was pregnant - I'm with you, I wanted to look as pregnant as possible! I had other pregnant friends that were offended when people mentioned how "big" they were, so I guess you can't win with pregnant women!

I found your blog through another - isn't that how the blogging world works!? - and saw this post and it made me laugh because I was teeny tiny and didn't show AT ALL until I was about 25 weeks or so. Actually when people look at pictures of me lying in the hospital bed before she was born, think the pictures were taken after. Everyone kept assuming something was wrong with the baby and kept asking questions about it... it was very annoying and eventually made me paranoid that something WAS wrong! So I understand!
