Baby Names

Tommy and I have had a name list for as long as I can remember. We have added names, as well as taken them off when we felt the need. Its so funny to me that now we actually have something to name and I dont feel like I am in love with any of them.

We like unique names that arent too crazy. We also want meaningful middle names. Here is what we have come up with...

Girls:
1. Hadley May-May for the month we were married in. Also, for Fern, the 101 yr. old who passed away during my IVF cycle. May was her middle name.
2. Kedzie Jeralyn-Jeralyn is my sisters name.
3. Lileigh(pronounced Lily) Ireland-Ireland after me, since Erin=Ireland

Boys:<~~Still dont think we will need these
1. Nolan Gregory-Gregory is Toms dads name
2. Colin ______-no middle name set yet
3. Gavin _____-again, no middle name set
4. Thomas John-This, of course, is Toms full name. However, I dont think we would use it for the first born. We feel that is too cliche.

You see how all the names end the same and kind of rhyme? -Ey, -Ie, and -Eigh all sound the same. -An and -In sound the same. Therefore, we could only use one from the list and couldnt save any for future peaunts. I dont want my kids to have rhyming names. Plus, my family is huge on nicknames, so we hope our choice has lots of options.

Anyway, I know I am picky and I know we have some good choices. I am open to more suggestions. I love really Irish names, like Maura, Colin, Maeve, etc. but I havent gotten Tom on board for any, other than Colin.

I feel like I am letting you guys in on a big secret. I planned on keeping the baby's name under wraps. However, you have been so helpful and supportive thus far, I knew this is one subject youd enjoy giving your input. :) So come on, be brutally honest, what do you think?

Thanks!

I love your blog! I think Lileigh is an awesome name! Nolan is my favorite boy name.

I loooooove Colin!! If i ever have a boy i would go for it!

Love Hadley! And I don't think you will need a boy's name either :o)

My son's name is Colin, spelled just like that. And it absolutely irritates me when people pronounce it colon. Something to think about if you ever use it with 1 L.

Hadley is by far my favorite for a girl. Lileigh is beautiful, but she will forevr be "Lily" because people will just assume that's how she spells it.

Nolan is a great name too, but I also have the feeling that you won't be needing it for a while.

i really like the names nolan and hadley. we're using family names too. in fact, the boy's name we picked out is both of our mothers' maiden names.

I like Lileigh Ireland. I've never seen Lileigh spelled that way before-very unique! And I love Nolah for the boy name!

Hadley May all the way! it's unique but not odd like Apple. and I love "H" names. There just aren't enough of them in the world.

Okay at first I thought you were honestly considering Hadley May-May as a name! Ha, thank goodness that dash started the explanation. That's my favorite one. I agree with what somebody else mentioned about Lileigh always being Lily. And I tell everybody to name the first name what you're going to call them. (That stems from being a child that goes by her middle name-- it's a hassle). Kedzie I'm not sure about...

Lileigh and Colin are my votes! Thanks for sharing!

I love Hadley and Lileigh....and Nolan!

If we have a girl, we will name her Lilly, so I am a little biased for that name!

C said...

PLEASE, skip Kedzie.

I really like Kedzie! Not sure about the boys...Gavin is getting more popular now, but I do like it.

I'm with Kim...when I first started reading I swore Hadley May-May was the first choice! Lol! But seriously, I LOVE all the little girl names. Beautiful. And the boy names are great to...another nestie is naming one of her twin boys Nolan and it's lovely. I also love Gavin, it's so clean and classic. =)

As a Lilly myself, I have to vote for Lileigh! I think its a fabulous name- and people will learn how to spell it eventually. I've managed to get people to add in the second "L" in my name after awhile, so it shouldn't be too hard for people to adjust!

I vote Hadley and Colin! :)

Thank you for sharing what you had meant to keep under-wraps! I love hearing the baby names!!! I love everything you have, too, but I agree with not naming the firstborn after your husband (I only say that because you said it first!).

If my sister had a boy it was going to be Gavin James, that could be a middle name option.

Ooh, I love Hadley. And Lileigh. And I like your middle names how they mean something. For boys, I like Gavin and Nolan.

I love the name Hadley! I am not into super girly girl names....(I have a Reagan, Addison, and Delaney, not too flowery here!)

I love the name Gavin. It's always been one of my favorite boy names. :)

GOod luck!!! Names are hard!

As a former teacher and someone who has a frequently misspelled name, I will warn you against unique spellings...your child will forever have her named misspelled if you name her Lileigh. However, I do love the sound of the name; it's very similar to my oldest daughter's name. I also love the name Hadley. Oddly enough, I'd only heard the name once in my life until last week when a girl I know used it for her new baby, and then a different friend told me this week she may use it for her baby if it ends up being a girl. So, if you're going for uncommon, keep in mind it might be getting popular. Oh, and I love Maura.

I like all possibilities for the boy.

I like Lileigh for a girl and Gavin for a boy. So fun!

I love Hadley May and Nolan Gregory! :) Both So sweet! I too, thought at first, you meant "Hadley May-May..."

:) I love checking in on you! It won't be long and I will be back on my blog!

Happy Easter!

Love, Sarah

i love lileigh. especially spelled like that...of course i have a 'breigh' so i would. lol. i think hadley is cute too. but i really like lileigh. good thing i won't be making it to 'l'. i've seen a bunch of people mention that she'd have her name probably spelt wrong, it may be true, but don't let that stop you. all of my girls get their names spelt wrong. amelya, breigh and caitlyn. if it's what you want, then go for it. if it's going to irritate you to no end...then skip it. it doesn't irritate me. and by the time they're big enough, they'll already know their names are spelt a bit differently. but differently is what I was going for. :0) little selfish i guess...

I hope you meant it when you said be honest!! I'm with C on skipping Kedzie. I am job hunting and thinking about Kedzie on a resume just doesn't feel right. And I'm with the teacher on skipping creative spellings, it's just too hard on little kids trying to learn to spell their names. Love Hadley. Went to college with a girl named Hadley and she was just as sweet as she could be. My favorite name on your list is Maura. Your boy names are all great!

Thomas said...

Love the boys' names, and Maura and Maeve. I also like Hadley. As someone whose maiden name was unusual, meaning I spent a long time spelling and re-spelling it for people, I'm a fan of traditional names with simple spellings, so I'm biased.

Brooke said...

I love Hadley! That was my favorite name for my daughter but unfortunitly her dad was not too fond of it. We were going to spell it Hadleigh. Congrats and good luck!!

We are in a name struggle right now too. You have our girl name, but are NOT sharing because we don't want any family members negative feedback, but we are getting no where on a boy name. Just when I think we have it, DH changes his mind yet again. He is funny about boy names. He took right to my suggestions on girls names, but no way for the boys. We are in big trouble if we wind up having to come up with two boy names. Heheeh.

My vote:
Hadley ... HANDS DOWN, I LOVE IT!
Colin

I have to agree with a few people about the unique spelling of Lileigh- I'm a prek teacher and that will be really hard for her to learn and every teacher will always pronounce it wrong;) I want to know the sex of the baby before I make my vote:) Have a great weekend honey!

LOVE Hadley!! Very unique!! (I have to admit, I thought you were saying Hadley May-May at forst too!) LOL

gotta tell ya, I love the name Hadley! Different and pretty!

I really like Hadley too. My middle name is Mae. (Just an alternate idea on how to spell the middle name). I don't really care for Kedzie. It's unique, but not as pretty as Hadley...and I have a feeling that your baby is going to VERY pretty!

hadley is actually i name i love and have considered. have you thought of deacon for a boy. some friends conceived their son in ireland and named him that. i thought it was cute.

Thanks for sharing,I've always loved names!
My vote on the girls:
I love Lileigh Ireland-it flows beautifully. And the spelling is cool, who cares if her teacher spells it wrong, those who really care about her will:)

And Hadley is cute,I know the sweetest little girl who's a Hadley.

My vote on the boys:

I've always said I'm naming a son Colin,so classic and Irish! And I do love Gavin, but know a lot of them!

i'm going to add my two cents in again, because i have breigh spelt the way i do, i rarely have people say her name wrong. most people know 'eigh' is 'eee' sounding. like i said before, go for what you want and take others opinions with a grain of salt, because my dear friend...names is only the beginning!! ((my sil has admitted to me that when we were pregnant she didn't like our names that we had picked out, but after they were born she couldn't imagine them being named anything different. i'm so happy she kept that opinion to herself til after we had the babies. )) not everyone is going to be happy with what you choose. do what works for you and what makes you happy. we can not go around trying to please everyone. it just won't work!! i also love someone's idea that they were going to spell hadley like hadleigh. i just LOVE the eigh. it makes the name just look pretty. you know? :0) okay i think i put in about a dollars worth not two cents. :0) happy easter!!

I like the names. My daughter Abby has the middle name Kavanaugh because it is my Irish grandma's maiden name. Her dad was Patrick Kavanaugh born on March 17...can't get much more Irish than that :)

Best of luck with the names. My husband and I agreed on a name for one gender each time and we ended up with the opposite gender...made for interesting conversations.

My favorite girl name is Hadley May. I like Lileigh, but she would be subjected to a lifetime of people not knowing how to pronounce it when they see it (when I first saw it I thought it would be "lie-lee").

Boy name my favorite is Gavin. But that is because it is on my list of potential future names too! :)

Tera said...

Definitely Hadley May for the girl, and I'm torn between Colin and Gavin for the boy name.
