Sick Mama

My cold took a turn for the worse early today. I can't stop coughing. When I cough, my ovaries hurt. After that pain, I realize how much it hurts my throat. My body aches. I am hot then cold. My nose wont stop running. I have no energy. I am totally miserable.

Any suggestions on how to rid of this naturally? I never get sick. I am not used to this!

To add a little humor, 4 year old Cayleigh said I sound like a wolf. :)

Aw, I'm sorry you're sick. I believe pregnancy does weaken your immune system. Same thing happened with my first pregnancy. I called the dr and found out what meds could and couldn't be taken. That was 11 years ago so I'm sure things have changed, but you might want to call.

Hope you feel better soon! You'll probably get over this cold just in time for the morning sickness!

This is my first comment. I've been following for several months and I love reading all our posts. As for your sickness, I say that you should eat healthy foods, stay hydrated, try not to get stressed, and most of all get lots of sleep.

p.s. How is your neice, Delaney? I hope her ultrasound had good results.

I wish you weren't sick. Try Zicam which is concentrated zinc and that helps boost your immune system a bit. You just use it during the actual cold and few days after. Other than that, do you like tea? Honey and lemon. Take care of yourself.

I also have been following for a couple months, just now de-lurking to make a comment! First of all, congrats on your pregnancy! I went through a lot to get pregnant as well so I can relate to some of it, I got pregnant through an IUI.
I just had a very similiar sickness a couple weeks ago. It was terrible! The coughing made my throat hurt so bad and I was coughing harder than I ever had before! I went to the dr. and they gave me amoxicilin. I was worried about the baby, but they said it is fine to take. You might ask your dr. about it! Other than that I also drank tea a lot, the hot tea soothed my throat.

My husband is just now getting over this. He started with it Friday and yesterday was the first day he's felt decent since then. It's some kind of virus going around right now. Hope you feel better soon!

getting sick when your pg is no fun. Your body is adjusting to the little being inside of you and let me tell you, they take a lot from you. Keep taking those prenatals and drink lots and get a lot of rest.
Hope you get better soon.

I'm sorry that your not feeling well. This pregnancy I seem to get every bug in the book that passes by, plus being pregnant it can really kick us down hard. Pregnancy does weaken the immune system. Check out a great website called www.safefetus.com Here you can type in all kinds of different meds and it will tell you whether its safe for baby or not. Class A or B are the ones that are safe to take. I know i took Sudafed a while back with a cold...best thing is get plenty of fluids and rest. You can also take tylenol or excedrin (not the one with aspirin in it) if your having headaches. Good luck!!

I'm sorry you are so sick. Aside from Sudafed there really isn't much you can take unless they give you an antibiotic. I always got crazy sick when I was pregnant. With Justyn I got tracheotis or something like that. Infection in my trachea. With Jacob I got an ear infection that felt like nails being jabbed into my head. With Josslyn I got strep throat. First time ever in my life. It's funny what being pregnant does to your immune system! At least for now you don't have morning sickness. That's the worst!

Oh... bummer! It always stinks to get sick when you are pregnant because you can't take anything! I hope you feel better soon!

aw you poor thing!
Try saline spray for you nose--like Ayr
Warm showers with lots of steam.
Fluids help to thin the mucus
Tylenol products and Robitussin are OK.
You can check Web MD for more.
Vicks vapor rub.
Cough drops with vitamin C.

Ask your RE if you can drink Herbal tea. I don't remember if you can or not, but it works SO well for me. Traditional Medicanials has a tea called Throat Coat that I LOVE. I am sick too, and I am drinking it right now....but I am not pregnant.

Your RE should have a list of meds that are safe for you to take. I know ours does. Hope you are feeling better soon, lots of rest and fluids!

I don't have any good advice for colds, but if I were you I would take off your rings NOW! I am at 9 weeks today and they will not budge. I'm not sure if this puffiness happens to everyone, but I really wish I would have known so I could have taken them off. I might have to get them cut off :(

Hey... I found your blog though a friends. You don't know me :)
My name is Erin and I am 17 weeks pregnant. I never sufferend with Morning sickness either, I considered myself really blessed. I did however get TWO sets of REALLY bad headaches. Come to find out I was low on vitamin C (the baby was taking it all). Nothing major, but I was told to increase my Vitamin C intake from the 100mg in the prenatal all the way to 2500mg. I haven't had a headache since and I haven't been sick. Apparently taking extra Vitamin C during pregnancy makes babies stronger and less likely to suffer from SIDS. Just wanted to share.
